American Bass-Baritone Jason Zacher has garnered acclaim as a versatile emerging talent in opera, concert, and musical theatre. Praised for his “resonant baritone voice, acting skills to burn, and most important, an alluring persona that dominated the stage every moment he was on,” (Opera News) Zacher continues to captivate audiences with his commanding stage presence and vocal versatility.
This season, Zacher makes his house debut at The Metropolitan Opera as First Priest in the company’s holiday presentation of The Magic Flute and covers The Herald in its production of Otello. He also reprises the roles of Olin Blitch in Susannah with Shreveport Opera and Pirate King in The Pirates of Penzance with Amarillo Opera, and returns to Merkin Hall as Benny in Kurt Weill’s Happy End (a co-production between The Glimmerglass Festival and Opera Saratoga).
During the 2025-2026 season, Zacher made his Lincoln Center Theater debut in Tony Award-winning director Kenny Leon’s production of Amahl and the Night Visitors alongside Joyce DiDonato. He also appeared in leading roles with Sarasota Opera as Olin Blitch in Susannah, Portland Opera as Colline in La bohème, and Tulsa Opera as Pirate King in The Pirates of Penzance. Additionally, he made his debut as bass soloist in Verdi’s Requiem with Chattanooga Symphony & Opera.
A former Studio Artist at The Atlanta Opera, Zacher recently completed a two-year tenure with the company, appearing in productions of Frankenstein, Rigoletto, La bohème, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Magic Flute, and Macbeth. He is also an alumnus of other prestigious training programs including The Glimmerglass Festival, Des Moines Metro Opera, and Kentucky Opera, among others.
On the concert stage, Zacher has performed several times at Carnegie Hall, most recently essaying the role of The Hermit in the French adaptation of Der Freischütz with the American Symphony Orchestra. Additional Carnegie Hall appearances have included Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass with MidAmerica Productions and Handel’s Messiah with The Masterwork Chorus. The artist has also collaborated in concert with award-winning artists Natalie Merchant and Anthony Roth Costanzo at The Glimmerglass Festival.
Zacher was awarded Second Prize in the 2024 Lotte Lenya Competition and named a New York District Winner of The Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition (2023). He has also received recognition from the Jensen Foundation, Annapolis Opera, James Toland Vocal Arts, Rochester Oratorio Society, Opera Birmingham, and the National Opera Association, among others.
Mr. Zacher holds degrees from Montclair State University (B.M., Music Education) and the University of Houston (M.M., Vocal Performance).
